Bali is alive. Bali is vibrant. Bali is EPIC! My first attraction to this place was for no other reason but that I loved the name. I first heard it in Thailand when someone said they were going to Bali for a visa run. The word hit me as if it came with its own soundtrack of strings, filling me with instant excitement and wonder ...BALI... I knew I must go. I hadn't yet learned that Bali was famous for giving "the call", when it had a reason for you to come. I had received it then, yet how little I knew of the ways in which visiting this island would change my life.
It was a year and a half later when I answered the call. Bali is a small island, just 54 miles wide and 62 miles long (but in the shape of a chicken, so figure that in) and they have a limited water supply. This has caused the islanders to communally farm, and share all the water - thus these breathtaking rice terraces, and a sense of community like none I have ever come across. In addition, they practice Balinese Hinduism, a peaceful heart-centered religion unique to any other Hinduism, where they believe in karma (simply, whatever you put out you get back) so they not only operate with pure actions, but also pure energy. 3 times a day they give offerings to the gods at their homes as well as their businesses. I have sat many times watching the girls at a cafe or store do their noontime offerings. I would always wonder if they got bored of doing it so often, and I watched them frequently to see if they ever gave a quick once-over just to get it done. In my numerous observations I never once saw even the slightest hint of insincerity. Each time I watched as their hands delicately wafted the incense with the flower and holy water, I would instantly and totally feel their high vibration and concentration. Think of this happening all over the island 3 times a day at every home, business, farm, even cars! The island responds to, is fed by this energy.
By looking at the kinds of tourists who come for a week's vacation and stay a few years - or even for rest of their lives, you can see what the island's vibration is attracting. Like attracts like, right? Yes, on the beaches and in many of the larger cities are the usual holiday tourists seeking out fun on a tropical island, but the ones who choose to live here are truly special. World Changers, I call them. I have met the most amazing creative entrepreneurs, product managers, clothing designers, film directors, teachers, musicians, artists, life coaches, and many more, and everyone has the pure intentions of helping others, providing something to enhance humanity, and to ultimately raise the vibration of the entire planet. There is an unspoken truth on the island, that in order to be an effective World Changer, you must take care of yourself first above everything. Then when you are at equilibrium and equanimity you have the most power and ability to enhance the world.
So as you can imagine, as many creators as there are in Bali there are as many if not more healers! From Reiki to craniosacral, to energy healing of any kind, to psychic soul readings and past life and shamanic medicine wheel readings, to yoga classes and tantra workshops and dance events and meditation groups, sound healings and angel healings, just to name a few. Some are just beginning their discovery of their healing gifts, some are creating new fields of healing and enhancement, and many of these healers are the best of their fields.
Instantly upon my arrival to Bali I found many of these wonderful human beings who are now friends for life. But what did the island have in store for me? Stay tuned, Part II coming soon...
Light all over you!
